Q:
My accident claim on my BMW 1200 GS was repudiated for not having a valid license. I have a valid UK license since 2005 which is still valid
A:
Your claim on the BMW 1200GS was repudiated for the following reasons:
All policies exclude any violation of the Road Traffic rules. If you have been residing in South Africa for over a year your UK license should have been converted to a South African license. All policies must always follow the laws of South Africa

Q:
I had a recent claim on my Triumph Explorer where the payout was 10% less than what the motorcycle was insured for.
A:
All policies follow the law of average, meaning that if you underinsure any asset your claim will be reduced by the percentage that was underinsured eg. If your motor cycle is insured for R90 000 and the retail value is R100 000 then you have underinsured the motorcycle by 10% and you are deemed to be self-insured for the balance of the claim. Some policies may allow you to insure on Agreed value, however you will still be required to insure at at least the reasonable market value.

Compensated value versus insured value – motorcycle bike Insurance
Q:
I insured my bike, Honda NC 750x for R95 000 in Dec 2018 and Insurers are only settling R92 300?
A:
Insurance on your motorcycle policy is based on retail value at the time of the loss. We encourage you to revalue your motorcycle each year so that your retail value remains somewhat current and the premium is adjusted accordingly. This is not true in the case of many policies that insurer on retail or market value without stipulating the value on your policy and your premium is not adjusted to compensate for the depreciation.

Commercial trucks motor and motorcycle insurance Cape Town – Tyre query
Q:
My repairer has advised me that if I plug my tyre with a mushroom plug my motorcycle insurance policy will not pay out. Is this true?
A:
One must be careful to study your policy with your insurer, but the following is the consensus that out motorcycle insurer holds with regards to the repair of tyres in otherwise good condition:
Here is an idea regarding the areas of a Tyre when it should be repaired and when it should be replaced. The red section would be the area which repairing the tyre would be applicable and the black area would deem the tyre irreparable

Q:
Bike Insurance – motorcycle cover Cape Town.
Why is there such a difference in premium on my Harley Davidson and my Kawasaki ZX 10. It does not make sense that I am paying double the premium for my Kawasaki and they are the same value. Please see what you can do for me to have lower rates on my Kawasaki ZX 10.
A:
Thank you for your bike insurance query with regard to different rates on your motorcycles. Insurance premiums are based on claim statistics that show that a super bike will be more likely to be written off in an accident than a cruiser, tourer or dual purpose. This is across the board with all Insurers. We deal with 5 different Motor Cycle Insurers and the same scenario will apply to all companies. Harley Davidson insurance have the most competitive rates and super bikes have the highest rates. It is always a good idea to check the prices on the different types of motorcycles when budgeting for your insurance.
Please let me know if we can be of any further assistance to you.
